Hawkins Radio Antenna on Test – Tuesday 16th August 22

Tonight we tested Brian G6HUI’s newly purchased Hawkins Radio 20m end fed vertical. The antenna was duly installed via a 12m Spiderbeam Fibreglass Mast and a Gary M0OTL drive on mount. Using 30m of RG8X we connected it to the Club’s IC-7300. SWR was at resonance as expected on 20m and we started using WSJT-X on 20m FT4. Many contacts were made as far away as China, North America and Bob VP8LP in the Falkland Islands. We found that the 7300s internal ATU allowed the antenna to tune on 17m, 15, 12, 10 and 6m Bands. A very versatile antenna indeed.

Here are a few photos before we got going.

Even Closer Still

Club Members were out in force today at the Wimborne Hamfest. There were plenty of outside traders and a good number of visitors too. Good to see Club Member Ben 2E0OMR and a few locals down there.

We despatched 100 Wiltshire Winter Radio Rally Flyers and here is the evidence 😊😊😂

“The Detectorists”

What a great evening this was! We welcomed Matt, John and Mimzy for a fun and educational evening about metal detecting in the local area. It was an excellent evening and we learnt so much about Roman history 👍

Wiltshire Radio Rally 2022 A Big Thank you

Well the rally is now done for another year and yes after one of the driest July’s on record we once again chose a rainy morning. Despite that buyers and sellers arrived in their droves and we just wanted to say thank you for supporting us. Till next year (Sunday 30th July 2023) and 73s.
