Due to COVID-19 we are not running classroom based training, instead we are running ONLINE Foundation courses which you can undertake from the comfort of your own home!
Our online Foundation course is hosted LIVE with genuine trainers and interactive media resources which will allow you to interact and test yourself as you learn. The course will run over eight weeks and will be 1 evening session per week lasting approx 2 hours (usually 7.15-9.15pm).
Due to the COVID-19 lockdown all practical assessments are currently suspended, so you wont need to worry about undertaking those, and the exam can now be taken from the comfort of your own home too.
For the COURSE – What do you need?
Any computer with a decent internet connection. Mic/webcam is not NEEDED for the course itself but you will need speakers or headphones to hear the instructor. If you have access to a tablet or smartphone as well, this will also make things easier.
For the EXAM – What do you need?
A Windows (Windows 7+) or Mac (Mac OS 10.8+) desktop or laptop with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM (no tablets, smartphones or Linux) with a webcam, mic and speakers (or headset) and a stable internet connection (512kbps or greater). As a result of the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK, it’s now possible to take your amateur radio Foundation exam from home. Here is a short video looking at how:

A few FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS….
How is the training conducted?
Due to COVID19, instead of operating the training in a classroom, we are running the training online using a virtual conference wherein you will be able to watch and hear your instructor LIVE guide you through the various modules.
Will I be expected to ‘talk’ or use a webcam?
Not during the training. In fact during the training we will mute all the microphones of students. Instead, we will give you a link to a webpage that you load on a SMART PHONE or TABLET which will allow you to interact with the instructor anonymously. You will however need a webcam with MIC when it comes to taking your exam online but that is for invigilation purposes.
Do I need any materials for the course?
- Paper and a PEN (for making notes)
- A computer/laptop/tablet and Internet connection
- A separate web enabled tablet or mobile phone would also be useful but not essential
- A copy of the LATEST Foundation Licence Manual – available at the RSGB ONLINE SHOP
